At Senior Helpers, our experienced caregivers understand how hard it can be for families when a loved one is suffering from Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. We take a unique approach to Alzheimer’s and dementia care with our Senior Gems® program. This method focuses on what those with dementia can do, instead of what they cannot do.
About Our Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care
The Senior Gems® program is based on GEMS techniques, strategies, and overall approach to care which was created and developed by Teepa Snow, Positive Approach, LLC. It allows us to understand which stage of dementia a loved one is experiencing so we can put together the best plan and select the best caregiver for that individual.
Senior Gems is a method for identifying the characteristics of aging, from normal aging through early- and late-stage dementia. This classification system enables Senior Helpers’ team of trained caregivers to identify different stages of dementia and focus on what a person can still do based on their “gem level.” This is a great system for long-term care of individuals living with dementia which, instead of focusing on disabilities, highlights what is precious and unique about each senior while working with them at every stage of disease to live a purposeful life at home.
Senior Helpers partners closely with Teepa Snow to create and prepare comprehensive training programs for our offices and caregivers around the country. This in-depth training involves an introductory course as well as on-going training and support both online and in person.
